For me, the above examples point to one thing – vested interests and politics. Vested interest in existing oil and gas companies, existing airlines, existing political parties, existing economics. We also saw this at COP28 when the number of oil companies with vested interests at the climate conference outnumbered all others in attendance.

My answer to all of the above is – How dare you!

Let’s look at the facts first:

• Our planet is heating up, and this is already causing chaos in our weather and ecosystems. This will get worse – much worse. 
• The burning of coal, oil and gas is contributing to this, not to mention poisoning the air at the same time.
• Wind, sun, wave and other natural forms of energy creation are much cleaner – and sustainable!

So, there should be no debate about what the direction of travel here should be – from any side. It is irresponsible to the extreme to be putting politics and vested interests ahead of such an important topic.

Yes, of course there should be debate about the speed of change and the support that is required to get us to a better place, along with the economic impacts of this. We need to look after those that need extra support as we go on the journey. Individuals and households will need support to make the changes required – that’s our Government’s job to.

The big corporations who use influence and politics to limit action and change don’t need extra support.

The politicians who go against all the facts – don’t either.

It’s time we used our voice and our votes to put an end to vested interests and politics.
